Kind Hearts Builds!

Kind Hearts house two

by HORACE HINES Observer West reporter hinesh@jamaicaobserver on 09/17/10

SIGN, St James - A beaming 67-year-old John Robinson last week celebrated the keys to a new house constructed by Kind Hearts Limited, a youthful family organisation from Kingston.

"I feel very good. I am so grateful," Robinson exclaimed, pointing to the rickety structure he used to call home.

Nearby, equal expressions of joy came from Annette Drummond, who also received a house to replace the shack she used to share with her four-year-old son Maurice Galloway and 11-year-old daughter Janelle Frazer.

"I am feeling good this is much more convenient. I am comfortable. I am really thankful," Drummond told the Observer West shortly after receiving the keys to her new two-room house constructed from ply board.

Organisation Kind Heart Limited is a charity organisation comprising over 20 high school students who have partnered with the Montego Bay-based Youth With A Mission (YWAM) to construct the houses.

YWAM provided the Kingstonians with accommodation for the five days they spent in St James and selected the recipients for the buildings as well as the provision of the expertise to construct the buildings.

Both building projects were funded by Kind Hearts Limited.

Noting that that the theme of her organisation is "building homes for people", Christina Lechler, head of Kind Hearts Limited, which raised money to build the homes through fund-raising events and the Richard and Dianna Stewart Foundation, said she was happy with the effort.

"People take what they have for granted but when you see people out there you realise the realities of life. I am very grateful to help people with basic needs,"? Lechler said.
